About Gail Ward - Photography and Projects

I am a photographer and writer based near Chichester, in the UK. My interests are 'raising awareness of the lives of others', and the world of 'Travel, Leisure and Tourism'. Assignments I've worked on and subjects I've photographed vary immensely. I am fascinated by people and love 'people stories' - always trying as much as possible to take time to form a rapport with everyone I'm trusted to photograph or write about,  and not to compromise that trust, which I hope is evident in my work.

I was lucky to grow up in Anglesey, with views of the beach and beautiful mountains of Snowdonia, since when I have lived and worked in many countries, alongside different nationalities and cultures - from whom I learnt so much. This has helped me personally and professionally, and really makes a difference to my work - especially when photographing in sensitive situations.

I don't have a huge amount of gear, preferring to keep things simple and to use natural light.  English is my first language, and I can get by with adequate French, Greek, and conversational German.

Solo exhibitions include "Aspects of the Desert", "Kaleidoscope",  "People and Places", "Growing up in the Shadow of Chernobyl" for SOS Children's Villages,   "Living in the Shadow of Genocide" - stories from Rwanda, and an "Exhibition of Shared Humanity", which was in response to an invitation from Chichester Cathedral for their 900th anniversary celebrations. I have also participated in group exhibitions and my prints are held in private collections, including the RPS.

Clients past and present include -  Not for Profit, Charity & Non Governmental Organisations, The Travel and Leisure Industries, PR and Event assignments. Linney design. Pearson Publishing. Harcourt Educational Publishing, Chichester Cathedral, Chichester Observer, Chichester City Council, Chichester District Council, Chichester Yacht Club, The 47th Regiment. Print and online work includes business and consumer publications, including Travel, Lifestyle and Women's Magazines.

Travel & Tourism - I am very keen on ventures that genuinely benefit local workers and families, for example, community based tourism, income generating, and conservation projects. I also seek out unusual, adventurous and inspirational leisure activities. I've got significant Travel Industry experience, especially in overseas operations, people management and communications. Before working freelance, I started out as an overseas representative  and ended up successfully operating at a senior level on the executive teams of leading UK Travel Companies.  I have been involved with various networks, committees and  groups,  and am a past Council Member for Tourism Concern.

Responsible Photography  - educational and cultural photographic activities. I founded Responsible Photography a number of years ago and am very proud of the recognition achieved, which wouldn't have been possible without the great partners and people I collaborate with.
